Holy Child Education

Mayfield Junior School is a member of a global network of Holy Child Schools founded and sponsored by the Society of the Holy Child Jesus. The nine schools within the Holy Child Network of Schools share an educational tradition routed in the ideals of Cornelia Connelly and a commitment to encouraging young people to pursue their dreams and make a difference in the world. Each school also shares a commitment to the Goals for the Schools of the Holy Child; seven principles that celebrate our faith and sense of community, inspire teaching and learning, promote awareness and compassion, encourage the individual, foster well being and growth, and keep an eye to the future. This affinity connects us and provides the distinctive Holy Child spirit each school applies to its community.
Holy Child education began in the mid-19th century when Cornelia Connelly, founder of Holy Child Schools, profoundly stated that we must “educate for the wants of the age.” It was her belief, in a constantly changing world that we must respond to each child as a “whole” person, encouraging, teaching, and helping them become the best person that they can be for today and tomorrow. Cornelia’s forward-thinking insights called for Holy Child educators to do both tasks – teach to the age and teach the whole child. Her wisdom and vision were generations ahead of her time. Today those same needs and concepts could not be more relevant.
As a Holy Child school, Mayfield Junior School embraces the development of the integrated, whole person. Everything is learning.
