  • April Announcement

    Dear MJS Community,

It is with great enthusiasm that we share exciting news regarding the future of Mayfield Junior School.

To deliver on the promise of our Holy Child education, and to sustain our Mission, we continue to implement the Strategic Design originally adopted in 2013. The Design allows the elements of our programs to intentionally integrate together and continually refresh over time. In collaboration with school leadership, the Board constantly focuses on preparing our community and campus to support the vibrant and evolving Mayfield of tomorrow.

The Strategic Design’s five key elements have produced wonderful growth in leadership opportunities for students and faculty, expansion of our reach out program into a service-learning curriculum, and the strengthening of our resources through investment in the school’s endowment.

Commitment to our faith-filled education model, the Strategic Design’s first element, has seen the most visible growth over the last five years. Through the creation of a Faith Formation team and expanded programming, meaningful faith development opportunities have increased across all areas of campus life. From class masses to class prayers, the religion curriculum and Morning Prayer, the spirit of our faith life is felt within our community each day.

To fully support this commitment, we envision an expanded and renovated Chapel that fully integrates our students’ experience, serves as a focal point for our community’s spiritual life and provides a more visible demonstration of our faith.

After thoughtful and extensive planning, we have reached a major milestone with approval from the city of Pasadena Planning Department to renovate and expand our Chapel. This endorsement signifies Mayfield has secured the entitlements to move forward with the project. A contractor and design firm have been selected, and with thanks to the generous support of donors, we will be able to move forward with construction commencing this summer. We are thrilled for our new Chapel to come to life.

Mayfield Junior School is committed to providing the finest independent Catholic education that supports the development of each child from kindergarten to eighth grade. Holy Child education is rooted in innovation and progress, and we will build on this tradition as we work to answer the essential question: What can MJS do next to best support our students? Our answer is to invest in programs committed to supporting our dynamic learning environment—one that values and strengthens our spirit, our mind and our body.

As we set our sights on our future, Cornelia Connelly’s legacy of “Actions not Words” inspires us each day. We will continue to share news of our progress. The latest updates will be provided here.

This is a celebratory time in our school’s history. Thank you for your care and support of Mayfield Junior School.
