Head of School Update | January 22, 2021

Dear Mayfield Families,

K-2 Students Return to Campus February 1
The Mayfield Scenario Planning Team has assessed the latest updates from the L.A. County Department of Health. We are excited to announce we plan to welcome our Kindergarten, First Grade, and Second Grade students (whose families chose Forward On Campus for this time period) back to campus on Monday, February 1.

We will move forward with confidence by offering in-person instruction again based on updated and analyzed data. The spread of Covid-19 is slowing and trending in a promising direction. Hospitalization rates are stabilizing, and testing across our community is increasing. We are pleased to announce that we will begin hosting Covid-19 testing on campus on a weekly basis rather than bi-weekly, and we encourage all of our students to participate in the testing.

A question that continually guides our decision-making is, “What is best for Mayfield Junior School?” Mayfield’s top priority is the health and safety of our school community. We are eager for students to return to campus only when it is safe to do so. Our campus is ready with detailed health and safety protocols and procedures in place.

We expect that all students returning to campus have been maintaining an effective quarantine at home since Christmas Break in anticipation of this return. Be sure to complete the SchoolPass survey each day before you come to campus. Please do not come to campus if you are experiencing any symptoms associated with Covid-19, or if you answer “Yes” to any of the questions on the survey.

Prayer Services for Grades 3-8
Mayfield will soon host safe and socially-distanced prayer services before Winter Break for Third through Eighth Grades based on updated provisions for faith-based schools.

For your planning purposes, our prayer services will take place in the afternoons with a drop-off time of 1:15 pm. We will begin with one prayer service per day over the course of six days. We will notify families of the dates for the first prayer service for their grade level by next week in the Maywire and in grade-level newsletters.

Students will remain in their original cohorts for these prayer services unless otherwise specified.

Session II Declaration of Intent for Grades K-2
Kindergarten to Second Grade families will need to declare their intent for Session II (February 23 to April 1) by February 9.

We are hopeful health and government officials will extend the Return to School Waiver for other grade levels during the second semester. If or when this occurs, families will be asked to complete a Declaration of Intent informing the school of their desire to choose Forward on Campus or remain in Forward Remote.
