Sharing and Celebrating: MJS Community Choir

With the second semester well underway, performing arts teacher Kay Bowen brought together students, faculty and parents for Mayfield’s first ever Community Choir. To Kay, the arts and activities like this choir encourage love, kindness and inclusion. Her goal throughout the remainder of the school year is to create memorable events to celebrate and recognize the experiences of people of color through music, dance, poetry, and narration. Meeting via Zoom each week to rehearse and then coordinating with choir members to record at home, Kay’s vision and belief in the ability of a community to create, educate, and provide connection, is evident in this first presentation. “Lift Every Voice and Sing” by James Weldon Johnson.
