Celebrating our Diversity

Mosaic Month at MJS culminated with the all-day International Fair. The International Fair celebrates the many cultures and backgrounds that make up our vibrant community. Students toured the Fair with paper passports filling them with stickers as they visited booths highlighting nine different countries: Philippines, Syria, Poland, Peru, Malaysia, Indonesia, Lebanon, Japan, and Hungary. Each country's display was hosted by MJS parents with several students participating as presenters. The booths offered samples of clothing, food, and traditions reflective of the culture and history of each country. Students sampled fried banana from the Philippines, learned about spices from Syria, posed for a photo with Machu Picchu after discovering Peru, played with a kendama from Japan, and so much more. Eighth graders also hosted a booth to share their year-long journey with the online Out of Eden Walks program. A highlight this year was a performance of traditional Peruvian music and dance in the afternoon. From the tasty food samples to the personal stories and information shared with pride by each of the parent and student volunteers, the International Heritage Fair was the best of both worlds- educational and fun!
