Traveling During the Holidays

As we approach the holiday season, now is a good time to review Mayfield's guidance for travel outside the state of California.

If you are not fully vaccinated and must travel, take the following steps upon your return:
  • Get tested with an RT-PCR test 3-5 days after travel AND stay home and self-quarantine after travel. If you test negative, you may end your quarantine after 7 days.
  • If your test is positive, isolate yourself to protect others from getting infected.     
  • If you don’t get tested, quarantine for 10 days after travel.
  • Self-monitor for COVID-19 symptoms for a full 14 days; isolate and get tested if you develop symptoms.
 
Here is a list of sample dates based upon a return from travel of November 28:
  • Return home date: 11/28
  • First day of quarantine: 11/29
  • PCR Test on days 3-5: 12/1-12/3
  • If test is negative, last day of quarantine: 12/5
  • If test is negative, first day back at school: 12/6
  • If no test is taken, first day back at school: 12/9
  • Monitor for symptoms until: 12/12
 
We strongly recommend you get tested 3-5 days after your return even if you are fully vaccinated. You do not need to self-quarantine if you are fully vaccinated or have recovered from COVID-19 in the past 3 months. You should still follow all other travel recommendations.
 
Finally, please do NOT travel if you were exposed to COVID-19, you are sick, you test positive for COVID-19, or you are waiting for results of a COVID-19 test.
