Congratulations to the Class of 2022

On June 2, family and friends gathered on Spirit Field to celebrate the Class of 2022. The traditional ceremony was perhaps a bit more emotional and more joyful as we celebrated both the graduates standing before us and the chance to be together once again. Graduation for this unique class was especially meaningful, as the pandemic so heavily impacted their middle school years; getting to this moment felt monumental.

In his address, Head of School Joe Sciuto shared his gratitude for experiencing his first "normal year" with this eighth-grade class. He praised their work in the spring musical, Children of Eden and reflected on how the songs spoke to rebirth and renewal especially the lyrics to "Ain't it Good," "When my ears were filled with thunder and when my soul began to shake. There were times I'd truly wonder If those clouds would ever break. But no storm would last forever though we felt so helpless then. Now we raise a joyful chant." Noting the connection to their tenacity throughout the last few years, Joe said, "You all made it through the storm, and you are all better for it."

As the alumni speaker, Sarah Ryan '17 reminded the graduates to continue the friendships they made while at Mayfield, and Student Body President Thomas Klarin spoke of character, describing his class as a positive force, resilient, generous, and grateful. The final speaker, parent Maura Harrington Roggero, noted her gratitude for Mayfield's caring community throughout her 16 years as a Mayfield parent and her confidence that this class had the best foundation for success.

Every year we marvel at the transformation our eighth graders seem to experience as they approach graduation. A Mayfield education comes full circle when a readiness to move on and start the next adventure is evident. Congratulations to the Class of 2022. May they continue to grow with confidence, tackle challenges with grace, and make wise choices – and may they always remember Mayfield Junior School with the security and comfort of a second home.

The Class of 2022 will be attending the following secondary schools: Flintridge Preparatory School, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy, Harvard-Westlake School, La Salle College Preparatory, Loyola High School, Maranatha High School, Marlborough School, Mayfield Senior School, Notre Dame High School, Polytechnic School, Providence High School, Sequoyah School, St. Francis High School, St. John Bosco High School, and St. Michael's High School (TX).
