Portrait of a Graduate

Mayfield Junior School’s tenets and Holy Child philosophy were and continue to be purposefully designed with the future in mind, embracing change as it benefits each student’s wellbeing and personal growth.

Beginning in the 2023-2024 school year, a team of representatives from the school community was committed to designing the Portrait of a Mayfield Junior School Graduate. This team was tasked with sifting through the multitude of seemingly necessary skills, sensibilities and qualities to find the perfect mix and prioritize based on Holy Child goals that encourage and support the uniqueness of each individual. Examples of these skills include creativity, ethical problem solving, global citizenship, media literacy and many more. After gathering feedback from different constituents, a smaller dedicated team narrowed our words and designed the language of the Portrait to reflect Holy Child values.

Designing what we teach and how we teach for the needs of our students today is an exciting and yet daunting task. Navigating artificial intelligence and other technological advances, coupled with a changing environment and unrest in the world, will require our future graduates have adaptable skills and a strong character to thrive. The skills and traits outlined in our Portrait of a Graduate will provide a framework and guide for curriculum development and program enhancements across grade levels. It is our commitment to provide each individual student with a solid foundation for success in these first nine years of their educational journey.
