Head of School Welcome

Welcome!

Founded in 1931, Mayfield Junior School is a Holy Child, Catholic, independent school that educates the whole child as a spiritual, intellectual, creative and athletic person within a challenging academic course of study in a remarkably joyful community. “Whole child education” is not simply trendy buzz words at Mayfield. It is who we are. As a member of the Holy Child Network of Schools, we are inspired by the educational philosophy of Cornelia Connelly, the Society’s founder, who in 1863 wrote her Book of Studies, which covered in detail the solid learning and the moral and spiritual training the students were to receive in her whole child schools while inspiring students through the arts, physical education, moral education as well as academics.

Of course, at Mayfield, we always strive to “meet the wants of the age,” and we are inspired by our school motto of “Actions Not Words,” as we balance tradition and innovation. Students experience a thoughtfully designed, intellectually challenging, and creative program of study that develops a love of learning and academic excellence. Our students are happy and motivated, and our teachers love teaching. We expect our students to reach for their potential and challenge them with leadership opportunities at every grade level. Children learn best in a structured environment and thrive when they feel safe. Mayfield provides both.

Beyond academic excellence and whole child education, Mayfield Junior School’s Mission as a Holy Child Catholic school calls us to support a diverse, inclusive school community. Our Mission drives us to educate students who recognize “the dignity and uniqueness of every person,” and who will work for justice, peace, and compassion. I am proud that our community is a caring one. Interdisciplinary service learning experiences happen at every grade level. Community service is part of our school’s fabric; it is essential to our identity and an expression of our faith in action.

Please enjoy exploring our website as it provides an introduction to who we are, and I invite you to visit Mayfield to experience our school community firsthand. I love watching our students, faculty, and staff in action. I know you will too!
