Affording a Mayfield Education

You want the absolute best for your child—so do we.

At Mayfield, our students are everything. Our whole child program is designed to see your child be their best self—helping them develop a love of learning, discover their unique gifts, and gain the skills and confidence needed in our rapidly changing world. And it all takes place in a joyful community with caring teachers and the space to grow with intention and kindness.

We understand that choosing an independent school education for your child is a significant financial commitment. Let’s work together to provide your child with an exceptional education.

In the 2024-2025 school year, Mayfield provided financial assistance to 20 percent of our students, with awards that range from 7 to 98 percent of tuition.

Tuition may be paid using one of four payment plans:
  • Annual payment (100% due on August 1)
  • Semi-annual payments (60% on August 1 and 40% on January 1)
  • 7-Pay Monthly (Monthly payments August - February)
  • 10-Pay Monthly (Monthly payments May - February)

Financial Assistance

Mayfield offers need-based financial assistance. All families who are applying are encouraged to apply for financial assistance. We commit more than one million dollars in need-based financial aid each year.

The financial assistance process and the application process occur at the same time and are independent of one another. The process is confidential. You must complete the financial aid application before you can be considered for tuition assistance. We encourage all applicants not to wait for notice of acceptance to apply for financial aid. In doing so, the available monies may already be allocated.

Applications for Financial Assistance for the 2026-2027 year open November 1, 2025.

If you have any other questions regarding financial assistance or tuition payment options, please contact Linda Rabitoy, Director of Finance at lrabitoy@mayfieldjs.org or Alex Lewis, Controller at alewis@mayfieldjs.org.

How to Apply for Financial Assistance

Mayfield Junior School uses an outside firm to process financial assistance applications.  Families seeking financial assistance will file an application through the Financial Aid for School Tuition (FAST) program. FAST is operated by Independent School Management, an organization that has been working with independent schools in all areas of school management since 1975. An important part of the service that FAST provides ensures that our process for establishing financial need adheres to nationally established standards of best practice.

Financial Assistance FAQs

List of 10 frequently asked questions.

  • How do I apply for financial assistance?

Review deadlines for the upcoming school year and complete the FAST application linked on this page.
  • What is the size of a typical award? Is there a dollar limit?

There is no “typical” award; awards range from a few hundred dollars to an amount close to covering full tuition. For an individual student, there is no specific dollar limit.
  • What factors are considered?

Mayfield Junior School follows the best practices of the National Association of Independent Schools for Financial Aid. Mayfield’s financial assistance awards are strictly need-based. No awards are given for academic merit or special talents. Although family income is an important consideration, many factors enter the decision-making process, such as the number of children in the family, number of children attending schools for which tuition is paid, other family dependents, assets (including housing), liabilities and unusual expenses. The school will gain an understanding of these special considerations from the information you provide.
  • To what extent will I be expected to use my own resources?

We begin the review of each family’s financial circumstances with the assumption that family resources will be used to the maximum extent possible. We anticipate that this will involve some degree of sacrifice. We ask that you give careful thought to the maximum amount of tuition that you can reasonably pay and apply for that which cannot realistically be paid from your own resources or those of your extended family.
  • What if I do not qualify for sufficient financial assistance?

While financial assistance awards are based on the school’s assessment of family need, you may still feel the need to seek additional assistance. You may wish to explore the option of a scheduled payment plan.

All families pay tuition through FACTS, a web-based platform. There are four payment plan options and three payment methods.
  • Will my application for financial assistance affect my child’s chances for admission?

No. Mayfield maintains a need-blind admissions policy; that is, students are admitted based on individual merit, not on the ability to pay.  Financial assistance applications are handled by the Business Office and are separate from the admissions process.
  • Will my records be confidential?

Yes. The Business Office maintains strict confidentiality over financial assistance files. The board, teachers, and students are not informed of financial assistance recipients and/or decisions.
  • What if I am separated or divorced?

If you are divorced or separated, each parent needs to file a separate but linked application. All information provided will remain private and will not be seen by the other parent. While recognizing that divorce can create challenging situations, it is expected that the resources of both parents will be committed to the Mayfield education. Unique or unusual circumstances may be considered.
  • What if I have remarried?

It is the school’s policy to consider the resources of a stepparent in making an award determination.
  • If I receive financial assistance this year, how much will I pay in future years?

When your family is initially enrolled at Mayfield and the Financial Assistance Committee has approved the award for your family, we anticipate that you will likely need the same level of assistance for each year thereafter. However, we are unable to make any guarantees. If your financial circumstances change, you may receive a greater or lesser amount of assistance.
