Graduation 2018

The Mayfield Junior School community celebrated the Class of 2018 at graduation on June 8. The traditional ceremony followed a week of joyful events including a Faculty Appreciation Luncheon, the signing of the Mayfield School Alumni Register at the Almost Alumni lunch and special moments with family at the Baccalaureate Mass. In his graduation address, Headmaster Joseph J. Gill spoke about living with passion and purpose reminding the class, "When you create a Loving World, you will then live in a Loving World. You have that kind of power through your Love. You might say, but I am only one person, or you can say, I'm the person who is going to make a difference in our world."

Other speakers shared words of advice for the sixty-one graduates. With sincerity and warmth alumna Katherine Clancy '07 reflected on how the motto, "Actions not words" stayed with her after her own graduation helping her take the steps necessary to reach her goals. Student Body President, Mary-Kate Seley spoke with joy and gratitude for her experience at Mayfield especially how “Mayfield has taught us that there is no “them” and that there is only “us.” Parent Teresa Dilbeck spoke directly from her heart in a moving address that highlighted the blessings of the close Mayfield community. She left the graduates with three “Be”s: Be Bold, Be Grateful and Be Kind, and her confidence that if they are faithful to these every day, success in life will follow.

Each graduating class shares unique gifts and talents with our community. This class of “philosophers” finished their eighth-grade year with feelings of achievement and appreciation for the friendships made. Many shared a journey of nine years together, some only a few, but all arriving at a common destination with confident minds, compassionate hearts and a readiness to begin a new adventure. We are very proud of all the Class of 2018 accomplished in their final year at MJS and look forward to their continued success.
