An Amazing Year for Mustang Sports

Mayfield Junior School students celebrated an amazing year for Mustang Sports at the 2014 Sports Awards ceremony on Thursday, May 22. With 10 league championships, impressive teamwork and focused participants at all levels there was much to celebrate. Coach Wood brought out his giant tennis racket to represent the major achievement this year for Mustang Tennis. The team went undefeated for a first League win in over a decade. Several other teams were acknowledged for League wins with undefeated seasons including: Girls Volleyball (4th year), Boys Football (3rd year), Girls Soccer and most recently Boys Baseball who have extended their streak one more year with an unbelievable six years as undefeated champions. In addition Boys Track and Field and Swimming were highlighted for first place wins at League meets and the championship fever didn’t stop with Boys Soccer, Volleyball and Basketball also applauded for their League wins. Several individual players were acknowledged as well for sportsmanship, perseverance and personal achievement. Those recognized are listed below:

Most Coachable: Catie Sanchez and Ethan Tse (7th), David Johnson, Maddie Reed and Cinnia Smith (8th)

Mustang Award: Maddie Lewis, Tommy Mix and AJ Niccassio (7th), Elisa O’Reilly and Michael Sullivan (8th)

Most Inspirational: Niamh Diver, Sara McBride and Blake Powell (7th), David Evans and Carolyn Lo Coco (8th)

Outstanding Sportsmanship: Henry Suarez and Julia Watson (7th), Charlie Foy and Carly Hall (8th)

Student Athlete: Lily Maechling and Diego Montanez (7th), Alex Deckop and Alysee Urbach (8th)

Outstanding Achievement: Caroline Finnegan, Brendan Fong, Alex Jordan, Xochitl Sosa (7th), Jaxon Drake, Charlie Johnson, Cameron McFarlane and Maddie Pernecky (8th)

Most Valuable Athlete: Maeve Davitt, Justin Fong, Connor Roggero (7th), Annie Evans, Angela Sarni, Austin Urbach and Nick Yvanez (8th)
